St. Giles Living Centers, Inc. was founded in 1991 by Jim Hazen and Al Strickland to provide services to people with mental retardation and related conditions. Though not affiliated with any particular religious organization, the Company was named for an Abbot from the Middle Ages who became Saint Giles, the patron Saint of the physically disabled. Legend tells us that Saint Giles was one of the most beloved Saints of the Middle Ages and in naming our Company for him we strive to uphold the essence of his creed.

St. Giles Living Centers, Inc. began its service in Lufkin, Texas and it remains the central office of the Company. The office is located at 3007 South Medford, Lufkin, Texas. The Company also has a Beaumont office located at 1890 Broadway, Beaumont, Texas, a Baytown Office at 2115 North Alexander Dr., Baytown, Texas and a Houston Office at 3270 Branard, Houston, Texas.

The Company was first licensed as a provider of services under the Intermediate Care Facilities for People with Mental Retardation Program. Commonly called the ICF/MR program, it is licensed and operated under the auspices of two Texas agencies - the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation and Texas Department of Human Services. St. Giles continues this program and consistently receives excellent survey visits from the State agencies on an annual basis.

In 1993, St. Giles was licensed as a provider of Home and Community Based Services in Texas. Commonly called the HCS Program, it is licensed and operated under the auspices of the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. The St. Giles HCS program has been used as an example to other service providers of how such a program should be operated.

The Texas Home Living (TxHmL) Program was implemented on June 1, 2004 offering waiver services for those individuals that were previously being served by Local Community Mental Retardation Authorities.

St. Giles takes pride in its knowledgeable, well-trained direct care and administrative staff. The Company is and will remain at the forefront of providing services to people with mental retardation and related conditions in Texas.

All of our staff are extensively trained in medical issues, behavior management and all other areas regarding caring for people with special needs.
